About Elkin Eye Care
Elkin Eye Care is a private practice that was formed when Dr. Janet Perkins at Schonhofen Eye retired after serving the community and seeing patients for 42.5 years! She sold her practice to Dr. Logan Oliver, the owner of Oliver Eye Care in Sparta, NC. The practice was started independently in 1979, and it remains that way today.

About Dr. Kala Brewer
Dr. Brewer earned her undergraduate degree from Wake Forest University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology. She received her optometry degree in 2013 from the Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, TN, where she graduated cum laude. She was the recipient of the Dr. Allan and Mrs. Susan Barker Endowed Scholarship. During optometry school, she was inducted into the Beta Sigma Kappa Honor Society. Dr. Brewer completed externships at LasikPlus Vision Center and Bookcliff Vision Center in Colorado, and a residency in Primary Care/ Ocular Disease at the Memphis Veterans Administration Medical Center.
Dr. Brewer strives to provide the best care possible to her patients. She has provided care for patients with many types of ocular disease, such as glaucoma, and has experience with post-operative care. She is a member of the American Optometric Association and the North Carolina State Optometric Society. Dr. Brewer has also participated in optometric mission trips to Peru, Belize, and Colombia.
Dr. Brewer is married and enjoys spending time with her family. She also enjoys hiking, disc golf, volleyball, Latin dancing, and volunteering with her church.
